Description

Interested in teaching at Liberal Arts College, but not sure what to expect? Join us for a morning discussion and networking lunch with faculty and administrators from Bates College, Dickinson College, Reed College, Wesleyan University and Williams College that want to recruit potential faculty across a wide variety of disciplines.

These institutions are part of a larger consortium of more than 20 liberal arts colleges (known as LADO) with an interest in recruiting talented new faculty. Across this consortium of schools, there were ~ 115 tenure track faculty openings last year, and there are ~125 tenure track openings currently being advertised for the 2015-16 academic year (along with roughly two dozen fellowship and post-doctoral opportunities).

We encourage graduate students and postdocs, even if they are not yet on the job market, to attend. This is an opportunity to learn about careers at liberal arts colleges generally, and to get specific advice about how to prepare for the application process in advance as well as when you are actually ready to enter the job market. Lunch will be provided.

Schedule:

9:00 - 9:15 am: Welcome & Introduction of LADO and panelists

9:15 - 10:30 am: Building a Career at a Liberal Arts College Panel, featuring:

  • Cameron Donnay Hill, Assistant Professor of Mathematics, Wesleyan University
  • Crystal Moten, Assistant Professor of History, Dickinson College
  • Ishita Mukerji, Molecular Biology Professor and Dean of STEM Division, Wesleyan University
  • Enrique Peacock-Lopez, Professor of Chemistry, Williams College
  • Merida Rua, Associate Professor of Latino/a Studies, Williams College
  • Sonia Sabnis, Associate Professor of Classics, Reed College

10:30 am - 12:00 pm: Breakout discussions by discpline
